Women’s stories about menopause: “Why am I like this?”

Category:Menopause

Do you want to know more about menopause? More than half of menopausal women prefer to talk to their female friends about it. RFSU therefore gathered a group of women to listen to their stories together with experts.

Few women seek help for their menopausal symptoms from the health care

RFSU’s latest report from the Menopause Check shows that more and more women in Sweden are feeling depression related to menopause, and over half of them say that menopausal symptoms have a big impact on their daily lives. Despite this, more than one-third of women haven’t sought help for their problems, and only a few get information about menopause from the healthcare system. You prefer to talk to your female friends.

RFSU decided to gather women of different ages, let them try RFSU’s menopause products, and then give them the opportunity to meet for dinner to discuss their experiences of menopause with experts present. This is called RFSU Table Talk.

Women’s experiences of menopause

During the evening’s Table Talks, the invited women had the opportunity to share their experiences, feelings and get answers to questions about menopause from two RFSU experts on site, Åsa Enerwik, midwife at RFSU Kliniken and Ulrika Häggblom, who is responsible for the product development of RFSU’s menopause products.

Before the evening, all the women had to take RFSU’s self-assessment test to uncover what symptoms they had experienced in connection with menopause. Then, for a test period, they tested products designed to alleviate these specific symptoms during menopause.

When the Table Talk discussions took place, all the women were allowed to share their individual experiences of menopause and the products. They also had the opportunity to talk in groups with other women and to ask questions to RFSU’s experts.

Why is RFSU doing Table Talks with women in menopause?

“We clearly see in our report from Klimakateriekollen that awareness is still low, and the problems are both many and have a major impact on everyday life. With Table Talk, we want to open up the conversation, share experiences, increase knowledge about menopause, symptoms and different phases, and guide what help is available and which of our products can help on the way to a balanced life even during menopause,” says Anette Otterström, Head of Brand & Communication RFSU AB.

Menopause is something that all women will go through, but the problems are many and how they are experienced is very individual. Therefore, increased knowledge is important. Many women also want to be well-informed when contacting the healthcare system, where RFSU’s self-assessment test and  menopause self-test can be useful.
